On Friday 6th June, three Anjunabeats names who have helped define the sound of the label come together for a celebration of past, present and future with Anjunabeats Masters - Andy Moor, Super8 & Tab and special guests Kyau & Albert.
This week we’re joined by veterans of the trance scene, Kyau & Albert, for an exclusive 30 minute mix.
The Germany based duo have a long history with Anjunabeats, from classic originals like “Are You Fine" and "Anphonic" in collaboration with Above & Beyond, to recent popular reworks of “You Got To Go" (feat. Zoë Johnston) and Jaytech feat. Steve Smith “Stranger”.
The pair are now looking ahead to the release of their latest artist album “Nights Awake”, a fifteen track LP that showcases their enduring songwriting skills. The lead single “All Your Colours" will be released at the end of the month.
Tune in to Group Therapy 009 to hear Kyau & Albert’s exclusive 30 minute mix.
Featuring the distinctive vocals of Zoë Johnston, “You Got To Go” is the latest single to be taken from Above & Beyond’s critically acclaimed second artist album “Group Therapy” – described by Mixmag as “the biggest artist album of the year”.
Following in the footsteps of Above & Beyond’s BBC Radio 1 playlisted singles “Sun & Moon” and “Thing Called Love”, the more optimistic “You Got To Go” is a song about seizing the moment and taking control of the opportunities in front of you.
Inspired by Kyau & Albert’s energised club remix of the original album version, the A&B vs. K&A Radio Edit combines the melodic riff-driven energy of the Kyau & Albert Remix with a more radio-focused approach – capturing the song’s beauty and orchestral touches perfectly.
The release package will also include the club-driven Kyau & Albert remix, a musical summertime rework from the legendary MJ Cole, as well as a second more bass-driven dub from the garage pioneer. A second package includes Above & Beyond’s groove-fuelled Club Mix, the Extended Album Mix and an organic tech-house version from upcoming duo Dusky.
The biggest trance collaboration of 2010 sees Above & Beyond join forces with German stars Kyau & Albert for this surging peak-time trance anthem – a standout track from Above & Beyond’s ‘Anjunabeats Volume 8’. Beginning in menacing fashion with tight, gnarly bass grooves and a shuffling tech rhythm, ‘Anphonic’ then balances darkness with light through a deeply uplifting breakdown and a beautifully simple, clipped melody that manages to feel fresh and familiar all at once. Ripping back into a contrasting combination of electro bass and epic chords, ‘Anphonic’ then shifts another gear as the main melody gets released to full, climatic effect.
Balancing the peak-time thrust of the original, prodigious Russian star Arty builds on his growing reputation with an impressively mature rework that takes a more slow-burning, but equally powerful path - lacing the original melodies with eerie, echoed atmosphere and building a deeper, hypnotising groove that unravels into gliding euphoria.
