From one generation to the next, an Above & Beyond OceanLab classic gets a modern twist from Anjunabeats’ ilan Bluestone.
With a huge buzz building over the summer and growing BBC Radio 1 support, Above & Beyond and Gareth Emery pres. OceanLab ‘On A Good Day (Metropolis)’ will see a full commercial release on 31st October on vinyl, CD and download.
One of the most timeless Above & Beyond productions to date, OceanLab’s ‘On A Good Day’ originally featured on the 2008 LP ‘Sirens Of The Sea’ and has remained a fans’ favourite ever since, accumulating over 2.5million views on YouTube. Receiving a second lease of life when its vocals were combined with Gareth Emery’s ‘Metropolis’ by Myon & Shane 54, the track has taken on a life of its own. When a crowd of 10,000 people sang along at this year’s Global Gathering and the track started picking up daytime radio support, it was clear that the song had crossover appeal.
Tapping into the vocal’s narrative of triumph over adversity, the official music video centres on the story of Detroit’s Georgia Street Community Collective, and their drive to regenerate the city’s derelict buildings and transform them into urban farms and community gardens. You can also view the making of the music video here.
Above & Beyond and Gareth Emery pres. OceanLab ‘On A Good Day (Metropolis)’ will be released on Sunday 31st October, the night of Above & Beyond’s Brixton Academy show. The vinyl package includes the extended mix and a high-energy drum & bass rework from J Majik and Wickaman, famous for their remix of Deadmau5’s ‘I Remember’. A previously unreleased acoustic version of the original song will be available exclusively on iTunes.

Hot on the heels of Part One of ‘Lonely Girl’, the latest outtake from ‘Sirens Of The Sea’ comes the second installment and two more top-drawer remixes to get spinning.
Laid back to the point of almost being horizontal but without losing any dancefloor sensibility, Vladimir ‘PROFF’ Ershov continues his excellent recent form and evokes the true spirit of the carefree summer track on an ice-chilled houser packed full of beach-inspired vibes and signature swirling breakdowns.
And to round things off Finnish producer Ercola checks in for a more experimental and minimal rework centered around warm gliding synths and sparse atmospheres, just in time to give that copy of Part One the break it probably now deserves!
